The image of God on Magnificat

It is with great joy that we present this study written by our Father General, Br. Miguel Marquez Calle, as a young friar and priest. This study is like his own youth, which never fades, and never loses the freshness of youth, just like the Virgin of Nazareth. Presenting this book on this Marian blog is also a way of recalling the Marian spirituality of the man who has been its principal champion.

The theologian Dolores Aleixandre writes in the foreword: ‘The Magnificat is the “portico of glory” that leads us into contemplation of the face of the God of Jesus. In this hymn, which the author of the third Gospel places on Mary’s lips, we already find all the harmonies of what is to become his ‘symphonic work’, and we are given a foretaste of Jesus’ joyful exclamation: ‘I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children!’ (Lk 10:21).

Indeed, Father Miguel undertakes an interesting exploration of the image of God present in this chant of the Virgin Mary and how this illuminates the whole of Revelation and the way we relate to God in the manner of Mary.
