Emanuele Boaga. La Signora del Luogo. Maria nella storia e nella vita del
Carmelo. Roma: Edizioni Carmelitane, 2001.
This book by Emanuele Boaga, OCarm, is an overview of many training
sessions he delivered in the context of permanent formation courses going on in
countries such as Portugal, Spain, Italy and Brazil. Boaga, a scholar in History
and Spirituality, thinks that the most helpful golden thread to a systematic
understanding of Carmelite Marianism is the historical one: namely, the building
up of a Marian memory rooted in Carmelite tradition. This is, by and large, the
framework of thought underlying all his writings. This assignment is presented in
ten chapters concerning several topics: (1) Mary’s presence at the origins of the
Order; (2) Mary as patroness; (3) Mary as sister; (4) The mystical presence of
Mary; (5) The Lady of the Scapular; (6) The Carmelite fraternities; (7) The
solemn celebration of Our Lady of Mount Carmel; (8) Pastoral Reflections on
the Scapular; (9) Iconographic notes on St. Mary of the Carmelites; and (10)
How The Carmelite Order sees Mary today. Available in Italian.
